Lapide pingere: полихромната декорация c мрамор в римската империя според литературни източници от I до V в.

Абстракт

Статията е обзор на променящото се отношение към използването на цветни мрамори в Рим според литературни източници от периода I-V век. Фокус на изследването е функцията на полихромната декорация в представителната архитектура - в градския дом в Рим, в типичната вила край Неаполитанския залив, в имението на аристократ от Галия през V в. - места, които демонстрират личния просперитет и вкуса към културни инова­ции. Анализира се динамиката в обществения дебат за „източните мрамори“ като потен­циална заплаха за чистотата на римските нрави. Топиката на „съревнованието“ на скъпите мрамори и на двойния каталог на „привилегировани“ и „изключени“ от интериора мрамо­ри се проследява в литературни източници от Флавиевия поет Стаций до панегириците на Клавдиан и писмата на галския епископ Сидоний Аполинар.
