Ink against Oblivion: The Case with Dimitar Inkiow’s Children’s Books and Their Publication in Bulgaria

Abstract

Abstract: Dimitar Inkiow is a Bulgarian playwright, publicist, and dissident writer. He is also the author of 117 children’s books translated into 25 languages. Some of them are included in the compulsory school curriculum in Switzerland, Austria, Japan, and Canada. Despite his recognition and achievements around the world, Inkiow’s name remains unknown to generations of Bulgarians. The triumph from the outside and the oblivion from the inside provoked my research interest in his personality and his children’s works. The aim of this study is to discover the reasons for the permanent absence of the figure of Inkiow from the field of the Bulgarian publishing and his non presence from the contemporary conversation about art and culture.
