BULGARIAN FOLKLORE IN READING BOOKS FOR THIRD AND FOURTH GRADES

Abstract

The paper presents an analysis of the content of the 12 reading books for the third and fourth grades approved by the Ministry of Education and the Science (2017– 2018), and used in pedagogical practice, because of the presence in them of texts from Bulgarian and foreign folklore. Tables are included in the exposition as evidentiary material, allowing the reader to locate the relevant texts in both the printed and electronic versions of each reading book. Short folklore genres, such as riddles and proverbs, are included in their full-text version, while tales are presented by their title.

    Associate Professor Dr. Anna Georgieva is a lecturer at the Faculty of Educational Sciences
    and the Arts at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Bulgaria.
    Her research interests and scientific publications focus on teaching Bulgarian language
    (both as a first and second language, including in a foreign language environment) and literature
    (methodology, texts, reading interests, and reading behavior) of students in grades 1–4. She is
    the author of 3 scientific monographs, 6 studies, 71 scientific articles, and 4 informative books
    on the educational direction “Bulgarian language and literature” for the first to the fourth prepa-
    ratory group of kindergarten. Additionally, she has authored 4 textbooks for learning Bulgarian
    language and literature for first, second, third and fourth grades to support studies organized
    abroad
