Abstract

This study researches the prerequisites leading to the emergence of photography and its links to the Industrial revolution. The key role of its „fathers“ Joseph/Nicéphore Niépce and Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre is outlined. Indicated beginnings of conversion into pedagogical aspect of this new area of social development. Attention is drawn to the development of photography on a world scale (at that time mainly in Europe and North America) to its cognitive and forming aspects and to the ways in which the Bulgarians come in touch to photography, too. And the first photographers in the Bulgarian lands, the first Bulgarian photographers are also scrutinized. The key role of photography in the process for awakening of National self-esteem, for the formation of National identity and provoking the for struggle against foreign domination.
