A TENSORIAL FORM OF LAGRANGE'S EQUATIONS

Abstract

A holonomic mechanical system is being considered for which as generalized coordinates not only scalars are choosen, but vectors and tensors, as well. On the base of the tensor calculation an adequate mathematical apparatus is worked out. The motion equations are being derived from the variational principle of virtual power (the Jourdain's principle).
