ETHICAL PROBLEMS OF AUTHORITY WORK

Abstract

The paper aims to address for the Bulgarian cataloguing community the problem of the ethics
of the data described in the authority records of the names of persons. The difficulty of finding a
balanced approach to the ethical application of changing cataloguing rules and authority control
that respond to the new information environment and do not impede the work of the cataloguer
is a significant point in the cataloguing process. The first Cataloguer’s code of ethics is discussed
in the section on authority work and how it would affect the daily professional activity.
