Abstract

This study represents a literature review of the significant role of media education, specifically focusing on media literacy in the contemporary digital world. A central theme explored  is the emergence and development of media literacy as a tool for dealing with disinformation and its function as an essential instrument in the educational process. The paper also explores how experts in the field of pedagogy view the interaction between students from different age groups, digital technologies and media literacy as a mediator of positive effects. It reviews annual data on the development of media literacy at international level along with recommendations from the European Commission for combating disinformation. In addition, the review mentions authors addressing the topic of key competencies in the new generation, lifelong learning, and the role of media literacy in supporting the aforementioned educational goals. The paper also includes studies on good practices that integrate media literacy into the educational process - from preschool age to courses in university in various countries.
