The idea of “adolescence in conflict with the law” and the unconscious mechanisms for vocational choice

This paper examines adolescence in the context of its historical development as a concept and idea and focus on professional self-determination as an essential moment of transition from childhood to maturity. The social mechanisms by which adolescence is thought as dangerous are tracked, as well as the basic concepts for deviant behavior in adolescence. An alternative term and a concept explaining the deviant behavior are proposed. An attempt is made to systematize important psychoanalytic interpretations and theories on vocational choice and career development, thus offering a new interpretation of the process o f vocational guidance and counseling, and in particular of the vocational choice o f adolescents in conflict with the Law.
