Пътища за навлизането на думи от староскандинавски произход в английския език

Абстракт

Настоящата студия е част от по-обширно проучване, което изследва скандинавизмите в английския език. В студията се проследяват пътищата за навлизане на думите от староскандинавски произход в английския език. В началото е направен преглед на староскандинавските кенинги и влиянието, което те оказват върху формирането на английския поетически език. Кенингите са метафори, използвани за описване на обикновен предмет или явление с цел да извикат картинна представа в ума на читателя.

След това употребата на думите от староскандинавски произход, навлезли в английския език са илюстрирани в оригинални текстове, например Кралското огледало, Прозаичната Еда, стари юридически текстове и християнската омилетическа литетура, като се проследява промяната в значението им.
