Some Problems of the Thracian Political History (II B. C. - 45 A. D.)

The article presents the author’s perspective on several contentious issues within contemporary historiography concerning the history of ancient Thrace. The author argues that there is no objective basis for the assertion of Macedonian domination in coastal Thrace prior to 148 B.C. She emphasises the significance of the Sapaean rulers of the second century B.C. and their foreign policy, which sought to preserve Thracian independence in the face of Macedonian and Roman expansion.
The article also proposes a revised genealogical stemma of the Thracian rulers during the period under consideration, correcting certain inaccuracies in the existing scholarship regarding their origins.
