The study deals with the social roots, the scientific premises, and the maturing of the concept of comparative cultorology. lt traces out the histoгic conditions under which emerged the idea about the necessity for coniparisons in the field of culture and the appropriate methods. It expounds the basic stages in the development not only of the science of сulture but of the social sciences as а whole, which form the scientific premises for the appearance of the comparative culturology. The main stages in the comming of the concept are studied as part of the conceptual apparatus of culturology. The study pays attention to the various institutions in Bulgaria and abroad, which helped this maturing.
