Abstract

The paper is focused on religious journalism and presents an attempt at elaboration of a theoretical definition of the concept. A review of the scientific bibliography in the field of media and communications, media sociology, and sociology of religion from the second half of the 20th century to the present, as well as of theological scientific periodicals in the last century, has been made. The results do not show high popularity of the concept of “religious journalism” in the reviewed Bulgarian literature, but it and its synonyms are present in foreign-language literature. At the same time, the Bulgarian media increasingly include content reflecting activity in the so-called religious field. This practical obviousness has led to an attempt to define religious journalism and its variety of types. A peculiar emphasis has been placed on Christian journalism.
