Traditions in the Proto-Bulgarian Ceramics of North-Eastern Bulgaria (7th - 9th Centuries)

Abstract

The topic of this scientific work is the characterization of two types of cultural complexes, mоrе precisely of one of their basic components - pottery. The necropolis' and Novie potteгy from Razdelna and Novi Раzаг types, treated on the basis of the already existing Early Mediaeval Bulgarian pottery typological classification, affords an opportunity to make some definite conclusions about the particular ways for formation of the Proto-Bulgarian potter's tradition. Two basic centres - in Central and in Eastern Europe - emegre, which have played а fundamental role in the creation of steady and ethnographically determined traditions in the Proto-Вulgarian manufacture of pottery. The Proto-Bulgarians, like most of the tribes which took part in the so-called Great Migration of Peoples, form their cultural traditions through assimilation of different ethnical groups with which they come into contact in the period between the 4th and the 7th centuries АD. А period of ethnical consolidation of the Proto-Bulgarian nation came after the foundation of the First Bulgarian State.
