This paper considers the development of the archives iп the USSR from thee victory of the Great October Socialist Revolution up to now, and the practice in determining the value of the documeпts for state preservation.
The first part deals with the measures taken by the Soviet Governmeпt for the reorganization аnd centralization of the archives and the concentration of documents in state repositories, which makes easier their utilizing for scientific, political аnd cultural purposes. On the basis of governmental enactments аnd scientific publications the formation of the State Archival Stock is shown, as well as the network of central (All-Uпion), re- publican, regional archives and their document content.
The sccond part deals with the theory, methods and practice iп evalating the documents on scientific, political аnd cultural basis, аnd the methods of their compltion.
