Modern Trends in the Development of Information Science and Scientific Information Services

The development, name changes, subject, and object of information science research over the past two decades are examined. The main thematic research directions are outlined, and the problems developed in this field are identified. New aspects of information services are highlighted, including the development of new information systems and information languages in connection with the use of electronic technology. Forecasts for the future development of information services and libraries in the "information age" are presented. A separate section is dedicated to information science in Bulgaria, its emergence and development as a scientific discipline. A bibliometric analysis of Bulgarian literature in this field has been conducted, identifying key thematic directions. The state of information support for science in Bulgaria and the application of modern automated tools are described.
