The Housing Question under the Government of the Democratic Entente (1923–1931)

The study, based on primary archival sources and press materials, deals with the governmental and communal policies concerning house building in the 1920s in post-World War I Bulgaria. On one hand, it reveals the development of concrete measures of the state and the communes like restrictions on private houses and flats, encouraging of new building by state credit and administrative measures, distribution of real estate within the limits of towns. On the other hand, one can follow different social issues on this subject, expressed by the political parties and various professional organizations.
The regime of the Democratic Entente managed to balance successfully among these issues and to solve that serious social problem according to the national experience during World War I and the immediate post-war period and following and modifying the example of the European countries.
