Studies on the Thracian Religion. I. Immortality

Тhis study covers the subject of immortality in Thracian beliefs. It is extremely important for the characterization of the beliefs in after life in the European Southeast and the Mediterranean. Following its origin and development in the course of the general historical process shows the idea of immortality as original and pertaining опlу to Thrace and the Thracians, in contrast to the general conceptions of immortality and after life in the beliefs of other Indo-European peoples. Тhis distinction in the cognate Ьeliefs of related ethno-cultural communities is substantial for the understanding of this important phenomenon of Indo-European religion. The Тhracians practised the rituals of immortalization during an exceedingly long period, including the time of the Roman domination in Thrace, in contrast to the Hellenic, Orphic and Pythagorean beliefs in transmigration of the soul or metempsychosis.
