Abstract

The exposition analyses the royal institution among the Thracians. An attempt is made to compare its nature with that of the royal institutions in the Eastern Mediterranean. The similarities and differences in their general characteristics, roles, and significance are examined. A comprehensive study is undertaken of the structures of royal institutions as they relate to the typology of socio-economic processes, state-forming practices, and religious activity across various regions of antiquity.

The formation and development of the royal institutions reflect the influence of more advanced class societies and ideologies upon earlier class-based and tribal formations, as well as their mutual interactions. In analysing the essence of the royal institutions, the author highlights their qualitative features and distinctive characteristics. The structure of the royal family as an institution within the Thracian context is consistently elucidated. The main focus is placed on the traits, distinctive symbols, and insignia of royal power, as well as on the functional importance of the ruler and his titles. The dynamics of the processes and phenomena are revealed in their depth and historical significance.
