The Moscow Chronicles From 70-Ies of the XV-Th Century in Setting Up the Ideology of Autocracy

Abstract

Тhе Moscow chronicles played an important role in setting up the autocratic ideology. Тhis role was deteгmined bу the traditional significance of the chronicles as political documents. In the second half of the fifteenth century the political activity of the chronicles grew more intensive in connection with the changes, occurring in the social and political life in North - East Russia. ln the 70-ies of the
fifteenth century this creation of chronicles on behalf of the Grand Duke's circle, laid the foundations of the official political doctrine. Тhе main elements of the autocratic ideology were worked out substantiated and backed up with examples from blstory. Тhese elements were the concepts of the succession of Moscow Grand Dukes' power to the ancient political centres of Russia, as well as those of
the intemal and extemal sovereignty. Тhus, anticipating to а certain extent the real process of building up the feudal monarchy, the chronicles together with the ideology, created with their help, were preparing the ground for the future political actions of Moscow power.
