Abstract

The celebration of the 800th anniversary of the capture of Constantinople resulted in the publication of a large number of diverse studies. In the decades that followed, interest in the Balkan history during the period from the beginning of the
13th century did not diminish. The focus of the present study is on recent publications on the topic of the Venetians’ participation in the distribution of the lands of the Latin Empire and specifically in the Battle of Adrianople in 1205. The works of Thomas Madden and Șerban Marin stand out as the most useful. To their conclusions, the author adds his own observations on some little-known Venetian manuscripts and printed texts.
