Statistical Observations on the Composition of the Medieval Bulgarian Intelligence

The study is аn introductory part to а larger work оn the history аnd sociology of the Bulgarian intelligence. Its goal is to unify statistically all data available about Bulgarian grammarians, iconpainters, teachers, bllilders, and organisers of spiritttal life during the two mediaeval periods - IX-XIV and XV-XVII century А. D., in order to shed new light on the creators of the mediaeval Bulgarian culture. The inquiry includes 109 persons in the first аnd 178 in the second period. The data obtainеd illustrate the creative potential of the Bulgarian culture and also give information about the age, sex, birthplay, social backrground, social stattus, education, kind of intellectual activity, attitude towards the official ideology, popularity aboad, and nicknames of the creators of the
mediaeval Bulgarian culture between IX and XVIII centuries.
