The author of this article focuses his attentioп mainly on certain significant moments of the histoгy of the earliest Greek colonies on the Aegean coast of Thrace, situated between the estuaries of Nestos and Hebros (today's Mesta and Maritsa) - namely the cities Abdera, Maroneia and Aenos, chiefly in the Pre-Roman period of their development.
The author analyses at а great length Pindar's famous paean dedicated to Abdera and its citizens. Не also treats recently discovered Greek lnscription (V century В. С.) from Theos - the Mother-city of Abdera. The article throws light on the political, social, economic and cultural ties between the citizens of Abdera, Maroneia and Aenos with Athens, Persia, Macedonia, the Odгysian Кingdom in Thrace as well as with the Thracian and other non-Greek population within а greater or lesser distance of those cities.
