On 20 March 2025, Professor Petar Angelov, D.Sc., passed away – a distinguished Bulgarian medievalist, long-time lecturer, and former Head of the Department of Bulgarian History at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski.” He will be remembered as a remarkable lecturer, a captivating storyteller, and a scholar of international stature whose research on Bulgarian and Byzantine medieval history opened new perspectives in the field. Among his major works are the monographs: Medieval Bulgaria and Its Neighbours: Diplomacy and Mutual Perceptions; Rumours in Medieval Bulgaria;Fear in Medieval Bulgaria, and Diplomatic Practice and Ceremony in Medieval Bulgaria. Professor Angelov combined scholarly rigor with human kindness, modesty, and genuine academic integrity. His legacy remains a lasting contribution to Bulgarian historical scholarship.
