Zalmoxis - Gebeleizis and the Ritual Bow Shooting

The study is a sequel to the analysis of the common ritual practice related to Zalmoxis – Gebeleizis, which began with the discussion on human sacrifices in GSU-IF 84/85, 1992. In the Thracian version of the tradition, the ritual of bow shooting is also attested—this is the subject of the present interpretation.
The conclusion is that this ritual is directly connected to Gebeleizis (another name or epithet of Zalmoxis), the storm god, also known under the identifications of Zbelsurdos, Suregethes, Perkonis, and others. On the other hand, Zalmoxis is not the name of a god but one of the many designations of the anonymous supreme deity—God/Heaven, God/Father.
Through the ritual of bow shooting, a fragment associated with the Thunder God from the fundamental myth of the Serpent Fight is restored, revealing its different levels of meaning.
